The proposal for the new Olivais market focuses on integrating the building with the surrounding urban landscape, connecting public and green spaces to create a cohesive urban environment.
Awarded Second Prize in the Public Design Competition, the project features restored and redesigned roadways, preservation of existing trees, and the use of permeable materials to enhance sustainability.
A green roof is also proposed to support sustainable water management. Overall, the project aims to foster a more integrated, sustainable, and community-oriented urban experience.
Two main squares will serve market activities. One of these squares will feature a playful area with a sculptural amphitheater topped by a bell, designed to be a community meeting point, promoting social interaction and collective living. The second square will offer seating, parking, and improved pedestrian routes.
