In our global practice, we strive to create designs adaptable to various regions worldwide. For this project, located in the rural Barrosinha area, 30 km south of Lisbon, Portugal, we have developed a masterplan spanning 2000 hectares. The site is situated next to the SADO River and in proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
An understanding of the local environment was crucial, encompassing diverse landscape typologies such as rice fields, vineyards, forests, and the village of Barrosinha.
These researches incorporate comprehensive analyses, including assessments of waterway connections, flood risks, erosion, and fire hazards, shaping a resilient and seasonally adaptive landscape.
Furthermore, new amenities, emphasizing the utilization of local materials, are thoughtfully integrated into the existing landscape and elements, enriching the overall composition of this unique area and respecting residents’ sense of belonging and identity.
A key feature of the masterplan is the “Ring Glamping” village, nestled within the paddy fields. This area includes a variety of amenities such as a garden cafe, kids’ playground, all-day dining, a mountain view cafe, glamping cabins, and a floating bridge connecting to the river beach front.
